For Rebecca Tillery, representing a client in divorce allows her to utilize many different areas of the law, including elements of real estate law, tax law and on some occasions even criminal law.

“Family law runs the gamut,” Ms. Tillery says. The opportunity to use her expertise in support of her clients drove her to this practice.

While at KoonsFuller, Ms. Tillery has built a thriving appellate practice, which gives her a special edge in family law. “Working on an appeal allows me the chance to help shape the law in our state while also honing my persuasive writing and speaking skills,” she says.

After clerking for KoonsFuller during law school, Ms. Tillery joined the firm in 2007 as an Associate in the Dallas office. Having grown up in the Plano area, Ms. Tillery enjoys using her extensive knowledge of both Dallas County and Collin County to serve a wide range of clientele. Especially within her appellate practice, Ms. Tillery gets the chance to represent individuals from all over the state and enjoys the challenge that comes with such a far-reaching practice.

Ms. Tillery earned a bachelor of business administration in finance at the University of Texas at Austin in 2003 with a concentration in accounting. After college, she worked as a financial analyst for a global business services company.

Ms. Tillery enjoys the opportunity to take on complex property cases that tap her financial know-how. Ms. Tillery’s proficiency in understanding a business entity’s financial statements and operating documents can be crucial in complicated cases where the characterization or valuation of a closely-held business comes into play.

Ms. Tillery earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the SMU Dedman School of Law in 2007. Selected for the National Criminal Procedure Moot Court Team for two years in a row, she won Best Appellant Brief in 2006 and members of the faculty selected her as a National Member of the Order of the Barristers in 2007.

Since graduating from law school, she has authored and co-authored numerous articles on family law and given many speeches to various law groups.
