Julia Kerestine

 

Attorney Julia Kerestine has joined the firm of Koons, Fuller, Vanden Eykel & Robertson, bringing with her more than 25 years of experience in family law, other civil litigation, collaborative law and mediation.

 

A Denton native, Ms. Kerestine moved from the firm of Hayes, Berry, White & Vanzant, where she handled a number of high-conflict family law cases and used her considerable negotiation skills in collaborative law, mediation and arbitration.

 

She is well known in Denton County among attorneys, judges and law clients for her ability to listen and organize a case in her mind and for never judging her clients but always focusing on their strengths.

 

Ms. Kerestine’s family has been in Denton since the early 20th century. Her grandfather, Andrew Kerestine, ran for sheriff many years ago and her great-uncle, John Hoke, was an attorney and realtor in Denton.

 

She graduated from Denton High School in 1974 and earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of North Texas when it was North Texas State University in 1979. Ms. Kerestine earned her juris doctor from the University of Georgia in 1984, having worked for former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn and former U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk.

 

She is licensed to practice in Colorado and Georgia as well as Texas and moved back to Denton in 2005. She is active in family law and mediation with the Denton County Bar Association, has been a member of the boards of directors of the Denton County Collaborative Professionals and the Tarrant County Association of Mediators and is a Distinguished Accredited Mediator with the Texas Mediation Credentialling Association.

 

Ms. Kerestine was selected the Member of the Year for 2009-2010 by the Denton County Bar Association.
